Machik Tibetan Weaving Project
Tibetan 100 Knot
|
The mainstay of our Tibetan rugs is the 100 knot quality. With 100 knots per square inch these are relatively finely woven Tibetan carpets and come in two varieties: One type is pure wool and the second is wool with varying amounts of silk woven into the rug together with the wool in some of the design elements. The combination of wool and silk creates a variation and juxtaposition of different textures that many people find quite appealing. The wool used is pure Tibetan wool from the Chang Tang or high plains of Tibet, all hand carded and hand spun. The designs which comprise our 100 knot line encompass a broad range of the traditional as well as contemporary. Our design inspiration comes from traditional Tibetan designs, textile designs from throughout the world and contemporary designs of our own creation. As with all of our Tibetan rugs only vegetable dyes are used.
