  • Weavers: Larhabi from Baghlan province

  • Weft wrapping sumak weave

The Larhabi Sumak is one of our most popular lines. Whether one will call it a carpet or kilim is a matter of personal choice. They are flat weaves rather than pile rugs, however the weft wrap sumak style of weaving gives them a tight, sturdy texture and crisp definition that is unlike any other type of carpets and kilims. They are woven using both New Zealand wool and also hand carded handspun wool from Afghanistan dyed with all vegetable dyes. Most often we weave them with the Larhabi peoples indigenous "Charchirak" design but we also weave some pieces with Caucasian sumak designs and carpet designs. Sizes range from 2’ x 3’ to 10’ x 14’.
