Mogol people from Northern Afghanistan
These kilims are woven using all handcarded, handspun wool from
Afghanistan and all vegetable dyes. These kilims have a slightly rough
primitive texture with subtle abrash from vegetable dyes makes them look
much like old kilims. Designs are primarily Persian tribal designs. Sizes
are small-ranging from 3’ x 3’ to 5’ x 8’, including runners up to 10 feet
long. The Mogol weavers are a little known ethnic group from northern
Afghanistan who are descendants of the Mongols who invaded this region in
the 13th century. They have been living in this refugee camp in
Pakistani Baluchistan for the past 16 years.
