Machik Tibetan Weaving Project
Tibetan 60 Knot
|
The standard weave Tibetan rugs with which many people are familiar are the 60 knot weave. What makes a 60 knot Tibetan carpet either ordinary or exceptional, however, is the quality of the wool, dye stuffs, and, of course, the design. Many of the 60 knot Tibetan rugs we make are traditional Tibetan designs with the rich saturated vegetal dye colors that were essential to old Tibetan rugs. We make 60 knot carpets using pure Tibetan wool from the Chang Tang or high plateau of Tibet, hand carded and hand spun. The carpets made with the pure Tibetan yarn have a slightly coarser and more rustic feel to them. 60 knot Tibetan carpets are relatively thick, about one half to ¾ of an inch and are extremely long wearing.
