info about Faryab
This line takes its name from one of the provinces of northern Afghanistan which constitutes the homeland of the Turkmen, who are the primary weavers of these rugs. This line of rugs is Persian knotted. The weaving is medium fine, around 150 knots per square inch. The designs are an eclectic combination of tribal village designs from the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and Morocco, Mamluk designs from Egypt as well as purely contemporary designs. These rugs are all made with vegetable dyes and most of them are richly colored.
