This rug is a gabbeh rug, the style was always created spontaneously by weavers as they wove, their looms often outside of their tents in the yayla (mountain pastures) that are their home. These rugs, woven by Turkmen weavers in northern Afghanistan are intended to capture the flavor of the best of the nomadic gabbeh tradition.
